Method
Knit Front And Back Together Up To Arms As Follows:
Using 2.75mm needles cast on 132(148, 162) sts. Work in gtst for 8 rows increasing 8 stitches evenly across the last row 140(156, 170)sts
Change to 3.25mm needles and work as follows
Row 1 : K
Row 2 K4, Purl to the last 4sts, K4
Continue in pattern (stst with garter stitch edges) until wirk measures 9(12, 15)cm ending with a wrong side row.
Work buttonhole row as follows: k2,yf, k2tog, k to end of row
(if you would like buttons on the other side – K to the last 4 sts K2tog, yf, K2)
Continue in Pattern until work measures 11(14, 17)cm ending with a wrong side row.
Repeat buttonhole row once more.
Right Front Armhole Shaping:
Place 103(115, 125)sts on stitch holder
with wrong side facing (and 37(41,45)sts) cast off 3 sts, P to last 4 sts K4.
Decrease 1sts at armhole edge of next 4 rows (whilst maintaining gtst edge) 30(34,38)sts
Decrease 1 at armhole edge and front edge as follows: K4, K2togtbl, k to last 2sts k2tog 28(32,36)sts
Work 1 row
Now just decrease on front edge as set (k4 k2togtbl) on every k row until 19(22,23) sts rem.
Continue without shaping, maintaining gtst border until armhole measures 10(11,12)cm remain, ending with a rs row.
Cast off 5(6,6)sts at beginning if next row.work one row. Cast off 5(6,6)sts at beg of next row. Work one row. Cast off 5(6,7)sts. Cast off remaing 4 border sts.
Back Armhole Shaping:
Pick up 66(74,80) from needle holder
Cast off 3sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows 60(68,74)sts.
Decrease 1 sts at each end of next 5 rows 50(58,64)sts.
Continue straight until armhole measures 10(11,12)cm
Shoulder Shaping:
Cast off 5(6,6)sts at beg of next 4 rows. 30(34,40)sts
Cast off 5(6,7)sts at beg of next 2 rows. 20(22,26)sts
Cast off remaining sts
Left Front Armhole Shaping:
Put remainder 37(41,46)sts on needle
work one row ( always remember to do the gtst border )
cast off 3sts at beginning of next row 34(38,42)sts.
Decrease 1 st at armhole edge of next 4 rows 30(34,38)sts
Decrease 1 st at armhole edge k until 6 sts remain k2 tog k4
Work 1 row
Now decrease only on front edge as set(k until 6sts remain k2tog k4)until 19(22,23)sts remain
Continue without shaping whilst still maintaining gtst edge until armhole measures 10(11,12)cm ending with a ws row
Cast off 5(6,6)sts ay beginning of next row. Work 1 row. Cast off 5(6,6)sts at beg of next row work 1 row. Cast off 5(6,7)sts at beg of next row.
Place remaining 4 sts on a holder.
Sleeves:
Using 2.75mm needles cast on 36(38,40)sts. Work in gtst for 8 rows , increasing 6 sts evenly across the last row 42(44,46)sts
Change to 3.25mm needles and work in stst.
Increase 1 st at each end of 5 and every 4throw until there are 58(62,68)sts.
Continue without shaping until sleeve measures 11(14,18)cm ending with a ws row.
Shape top:
Cast of 4sts at beginning f next 2 rows 50(56,60)sts. Drecrease 1 at each end of next and following 3 alt rows 42(48,52)sts
Work one row. Cast off.
To make up:
Join shoulder seams. Place 4sts from holder onto 3.25mm needles and work in gtst until band fits around back of neck.Cast off and attach to cast off band edge from other side. Join sleeve seems and sew into cardi. Securely attach 2 buttons to band.
